Indian Railway Budget 2016 budget released by Railway
Minister Suresh Prabhu satisfying
all grade people.

The theme of the budget is 'Chalo milkar kuch
naya kare ' which includes overcoming challenges like Reorganize, Restructure
Rejuvenate Indian Railways. For this he had introduced three pillars of the
strategy i.e. Nav Arjan – New revenues, Nav Manak – New norms, Nav Sanrachna –
New Structures. The Union Railway Budget 2016-17 focused on
capacity creation in the rail sector, with an increased outlay of about Rs.
1.21 lakh crore, and on completion of the ongoing projects rather than
announcing new ones. LIC has agreed to invest Rs. 1.5 lakh crore over 5 years
on extremely favorable terms. Mr. Prabhu's announcements included India's
first rail auto hub, boost to e-catering, connectivity to the North-East and
Wi-Fi in railway stations. Received in-principle approval from 17 States
to form joint ventures. The cabinet decision to allow JVs with States for rail
projects opens new vistas for ownership in the railway sector.
For north eastern states Ministry has taken steps to better
the railway connectivity in these states. , Especially Mizoram and Manipur, to
be connected through broad gauge soon with commissioning of the
Kathakal-Bhairabi and Arunachal-Jiribam Gauge Conversion projects.. BG Lumding-Silchar section in Assam opened,
thus connecting Barak Valley with the rest of the country. Also Agartala brought on to the BG network. Tripura welcomed the budget and the people expressed
satisfaction with the government's decision to connect North East India,
especially Mizoram and Manipur to the rest of the country. According to PTI,
people in Tripura expressed that they are happy with the Rail Budget as there
has been no hike in the passenger fare and increase in quota for women and
senior citizens.
South
India's government has not shown much satisfaction with the budget purposed.
There will be an introduction of India's first rail auto hub to come up in
Chennai. The ministry will partner with
the Government of Tamil Nadu for developing suburban network in Chennai through
innovative financing methods. The ministry will also work with Karnataka State
Government for suburban rails. Hopes pinned on new trains to south Kerala
A special
purpose vehicle for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai high speech corridor registered this
month. Elevated rail corridors from Churchgate to Virar and CST to Panvel on
the cards. Tuna Port commissioned and rail connectivity
projects to ports of Jaigarh, Dighi, Rewas and Paradip under implementation;
implementation of rail connectivity for the ports of Nargol and Hazira under
PPP in 2016-17.
Work on Katra-Banihal
section of Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project is progressing
satisfactorily- 35 kms of tunnelling out of a total of 95 kms completed;
Decongestion work on Jalandhar - Jammu line in full swing and doubling of two
bridges to be commissioned by March 2016, while the other two bridges will be
completed by 2016-17.
Odessa
also hailed the budget as the state's long-standing demand of getting a
dedicated freight corridor was fulfilled in the Railway Budget.
Other states that
hailed the Railway Budget were Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh
calling its passenger-centric, with the introduction of Tejas and no hike in
fares. Uttar Pradesh, which gets 5000 cr rupees projects that include railway
track will be made electronically between Meerut – Panipat and Delhi – Shamli
railway track would be done double line.
India, New freight corridors announced in Delhi-Chennai, Kharagpur-Mumbai,
Kharagpur-Vijayawada.
