Jat agitation for reservation in Hariyana

India has to face another ghastly result of caste system when the Jat agitation started in Hariyana. The Jat community which gets the facility of reservation as an Other Backward Class (OBC) in four states of the country, demanded the same facility in every state and that is the source of the Jat andolon.

The motif of the andolon is that once getting the facility from the central government, the Jats will be able to get an advantage for securing their place in government service. And for achieving their goal, they applied the ways, which were beyond everyone’s expectations and created a great nuisance in Hariyana.

This is not the first time in Indian history when the issue of Jat agitation for reservation came up. The Jat andolon started in the year of 2015 when the Supreme Court checked the notification dated 4^th March 2014, granting the OBC status to the Jat. After this decision of the Supreme Court the Khap Panchayat and factions of Jat sanity announced to revolt against the government and Ram Bhagat Malik, spokesman of All India Jat Aarakshan Sanghrash Samiti announced an “all-out “war against the government.

It is proved once again that the previous inconvenience regarding Jat agitation for reservation was not enough as once again the issue created a great hassle in Hariyana on February 19, 2016. Jat agitation in Hariyana disrupted railway traffics and major roads of Hariyana as the jats object about the inaction of government to fulfill their demands. The result of this agitation is ghastly. 

It causes a huge loss in economy. In the five days Indian railway has lost almost INR 100 core which is a result of the blockade in Hariyana and which has affected the service of 206 trains. As the jats occupied the railway tracks, 70 trains were diverted and 100 trains were cancelled. Mobile Internet services were blocked in Haryana’s Rothak district.

The Jat agitation in Hariyana spread widely in Kathial, Jind, Karnal and other districts. The rail traffic was mostly affected in Rothak-Jajjar region while the supply of vegetables, milk and other goods disrupted as the national highway connecting to Rothak and other parts of the states were occupied by the protestant. 

The Hariyana govt. has taken steps to control the situation by giving the message of peace. They have agreed to double the existing 10% reservation in educational institutions and jobs for economically backwards persons in general category including Jat, Rors, Jat Sikhs, Bishnois and Tyagis. Though the final decision is pending which will be taken on next Thursday regarding Jat agitation.
